Remember the ancient times when African fabrics were deemed outfits for for the elderly mothers?”Yes, that was not long ago. In the late ’90s and early 20s’ these outfits were mainly tailored for our grandparent and mothers. They were long, baggy and associated with traditional events and church services. Young and trendy ladies disliked these pieces with a passion. The contributing factor to the dislike was the experiences some of their mothers had with their local tailors. Many are the times I hear some of my friends say “No I will never wear African prints because a certain tailor destroyed my fabric, or they stole my fabrics or no the expectations and the reality were two totally different pieces.” As much as I wish to agree with this statement I must say that at times, we are to blame.
